Calving time is a key testing period for farms especially those farms that have previously been exposed to BVD.
Calving time is key in the management of BVD. Any farm with a previous or suspected BVD issue should be testing all calves. This year new research has meant that the process of testing calves can be even easier. Research from Dr. Scott McDougall (Cognosco-Animal Health and Production Research) has shown that when used on ear notches the IDEXX antigen ELISA can be used on calves at any age. It is also the superior diagnostic method for differentiating PI’s from TI’s, meaning positive results can be acted on swiftly and confidently. As a result of these findings, we have updated our BVD Dairy Farm Framework to be consistent with the latest research developments. Our Farm Frameworks are intended to assist vets and farmers in working together to manage herd health.

This calving season we are encouraging testing every calf with the IDEXX submit and save offer:
- Submit 20-39 samples and SAVE 10%
- Submit 40-59 samples and SAVE 15%
- Submit 60 or more samples and SAVE 20%
