Behind every New Zealand dairy farm there’s a woman, and behind every woman there’s the Dairy Women’s Network.
Based in the Waikato but with a nationwide presence, the main aim of the Network is to create occasions for women to get off-farm and connect with others while developing industry-based knowledge and soft skills. But with inclusivity as one of their key values, webinars, workshops and events are held all around the country and are open to both men and women, creating a community of over 11,000.
“Dairy Women’s Network membership is made up of strong resilient and passionate farming people, empowered to made a difference in their community and industry” says Jules Benton, CEO
While it’s always been a staple in the New Zealand farming industry, the Dairy Women’s Network has gained traction and has become an increasingly influential industry participant with support from DairyNZ and a range of other partners. It is with the help of these partners that they are able to provide webinars and interactive workshops on a range of different topics, from personal development and business to on-farm calf rearing and animal health. Each workshop is taken by an industry partner who has expert knowledge in the topic that is being delivered, so everyone attending gets exactly the right information to make their cows happier, healthier, and run their businesses smarter.
“We are excited to be partnering with IDEXX to support the discussion with people about their pets, people and livestock, all while strengthening our communities”, Jules Benton
Specific events in each region are focused on supporting health and wellbeing, so dairy women can continue to give back to and support their own communities. But the Network also knows that it takes a lot to juggle life as a dairy farmer or rural professional, wife and mother: they enjoy celebrating the successes of their members and are the driving force behind two industry awards: Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year and their own Regional Leader of the Year.
From grassroots level to nationwide events, the Dairy Women’s Network is proud to be involved in the dairy community and to have IDEXX as a key industry partner supporting our members. Because at the end of the day, we all work together to feed New Zealand and the rest of the world
