IDEXX Newsletter
The IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test is an enzyme-linked immunoassay for the detection of early pregnancy-associated glycoproteins in serum or EDTA plasma of cattle, as a marker for pregnancy.
How your samples work harder
IDEXX is giving you the opportunity to get more value per sample, and help your clients make more informed management decisions.
For all BVD and Johne’s serology submissions sent into the IDEXX laboratory, IDEXX will add complimentary IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein testing onto every sample.
The Value is in The Negative
When adding an IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test onto infectious disease tests, the value is in the negative result.
By adding an IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test, IDEXX is providing an extra opportunity to identify cows which are still empty or may have slipped. IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test is most valuable in identifying empty animals that were believed to be pregnant.
Even if there are no positive infectious disease results; a negative result on the IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test enables the veterinarians to provide valuable information to inform strategic management decisions.
A negative IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test result in an animal believed to be pregnant provides valuable information for the farmer enabling them to make informed and profitable management decisions. For example:
- A herd tested for infectious diseases, where all results come back negative is good news, it may seem hard to justify the cost of testing, especially in tight economic conditions. If the veterinarian can pick-up one negative IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test result in the herd the farmer can use this information to manage the cow differently and may decide in this instance to cull and to cover the cost of the infectious disease testing.
- Cows which were previously scanned positive during pregnancy testing may be tested for BVD/Johne’s and have a complimentary IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test added. If a negative test result is reported the veterinarian can use this information to advise the farmer to continue with a thorough reproductive/fertility examination.
- Cow which were previously scanned positive during pregnancy testing may be tested for BVD/Johne’s and have a complimentary IDEXX Alertys pregnancy-associated glycoprotein test added. If a negative test result is reported the farmer can manage dry cow therapy appropriately during dry-off season and minimise production implications.
